News update.
May 2005.
Watch this space, for we should soon be hearing more about plans for Felixstowe’s south sea front land. It seems there will now be 157 flats/houses, rather than the 209 included in the 2004 planning application, rejected by SCDC Development Control sub committee. You may recall there were so many deviations from the Local Plan that protesters questioned the need for such a document if Cabinet members could blatantly ignore it as and when they pleased.
157 residential properties in a flood zone, on sea front recreation land, and prior to a start being made on the strengthening of sea defences, has got to be 157 properties too many.
The name of our new Community Policeman is Scott Last. Steve (Warne) moved on some months ago. I believe Richard is still in the area? I have not yet met Scott but we have talked on the telephone. He will be invited to attend out next meeting.
We are still collecting bric-a-brac, books, games (no clothing) etc., for our car boot sale in a few weeks time. Thank you Pat and Pauline. Please deliver to 8 Manor Terrace or 11a Beach Station Road. Moneys raised will go towards the hire of a hall for our next open meeting.
Would you like to question newly elected councillors? Invite a local noteworthy to speak on a topic close to hearts? Invite Mrs.Robinson to tell us something about her work as Town Clerk? Talk about the way forward for WEFRA, or what the future holds for Felixstowe? We need ideas for discussion.
Noisy Neighbours? Apparently a new arbitration service has been set up to act as “middle-man” between parties concerned. If you are suffering (believe me I know the feeling) then contact your County Council representative after May 5th elections. He or she should be able to help. It may take a few weeks to sort out, but we can do much to help lessen constant aggravation.
Local Hospitals. The League of Friends of Felixstowe Hospitals now has its own site – just follow this link. I recently attended a meeting of the Re-Design Group for the Felixstowe General. As you know the General now houses several Out-Patients clinics. Hopefully there will be a gradual increase in the number of clinics as time goes by. If in doubt as to what exists at the present time just pop in to pick up an Explanatory leaflet, from the FGH reception area. There are plans afoot to demolish the old mortuary to make way for extra car parking spaces. Hospital managers politely request nearby homeowners to not park in spaces intended for staff and patients.
This newsletter will also be delivered in the usual way. Not all members own a computer. Hope to hear from you.
